Heavy rain and storms....

A cluster of showers and some embedded storms with heavy rain pushing through eastern KY and into SWVA right now. Strong storm moving through Lee County currently putting down some very heavy rains and gusty winds. Severe thunderstorm warnings were out for Harlan, Bell, and some others in eastern KY, appears that storm had been weakening some but others firing up and strengthening. Numerous flood advisories and flash flood warnings out for some eastern KY counties as these push through.

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Claiborne County in east Tennessee...
Hancock County in east Tennessee...
this includes the city of Sneedville...
Lee County in southwest Virginia...
this includes the city of Jonesville...
Scott County in southwest Virginia...
this includes the city of Gate City...
Wise County in southwest Virginia...
this includes the city of wise...

* until 500 PM EDT

* at 400 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing penny size hail... and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from Pennington Gap to 19 miles west of Harrogate-Shawanee... or along a line extending from 11 miles northeast of Jonesville to 15 miles northeast of La Follette... and moving southeast at 22 mph.

* Severe thunderstorms will be near...
Pennington Gap by 410 PM EDT...
Harrogate-Shawanee by 415 PM EDT...
Jonesville by 420 PM EDT...
Tazewell by 440 PM EDT...
Sneedville by 445 PM EDT...

In addition to large hail and damaging winds... continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors
immediately! Lightning is one of natures primary killers. Remember... if you can hear thunder... you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

* urban and small stream flood advisory for minor flooding of poor
drainage areas in...
Lee County in southwest Virginia...
Scott County in southwest Virginia...
Wise County in southwest Virginia...
this includes the city of wise...

* until 615 PM EDT

* at 420 PM EDT thunderstorms were producing heavy rain over Lee... wise... and northwest Scott counties. Rainfall amounts exceeding two inches in one hour can be expected. This will cause minor flooding of poor drainage areas and small streams.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

To report flooding... have the nearest law enforcement agency relay your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.
